Back at it.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tanks are sooo cheap on CL when you don't care if they can hold water. LOL

Aren't they! I'd love to get one that holds water for the not holds water price. That's a major upgrade that he'll definitely appreciate. My LFS has a rescue that has been in their shop for several months. When he was young he was housed with another dragon that bit one of his legs off. So he was brought to my LFS. He has such a great personality and I wish I could take him in. I'm trying to keep it simple right now. I have this 1 tank and two snakes and I don't want to get more than that at this office. I did just buy a new house and we're getting settled in. I just decked my attic for storage so once I clear out my garage I'll get one large aquarium running in there.

Woohoo on no nitrites!

Gonna go for a Dragon Derail....

Yeah, I just got him in December from a friend who had him for her son who lost interest over the years. I've always been interested in reptiles and this just seemed to be right place, right time kind of thing. He got some serious quality of life upgrades with me. (You know how I research and go for a naturalistic aquarium setup... well the same applies to the dragon. ;) ) He's 3-4 years old, and named Calvin.

"Before" setup: 40 breeder, barely any decor, no hides, disgusting repticarpet. Mostly pelleted diet with some bugs and some veg mixed in.

"After": 100 gallon (got with stand for $100 on CL!), more enrichment, sand/soil substrate, better heat gradients and UVB lighting. Fresh veggies every day, bugs every other. Time out of the viv most days.

We took in a beardie years ago same type of story. We did the same type of upgrades. Ours was a jerk though, the girl that had owned it fed it anoles and pinkies hardly any veg. I don't know if that was why he was a jerk or just lack of handling. We had him for about 10 years and he was around 3 or 4 when we got him. Never could trust him to just act like alot of beardies. Only herps we have atm are my ancient corn and a 55lb sulcata tortoise.

That sucks... part of the appeal to me is to be able to handle the lizard. Luckily this dude is pretty chill and doesn't mind being handled.

I had tons of herps when i was a kid. Savannah monitor that was the size of medium dog, uromastyx (very cool) iguanas, boa's and king snakes too.

Nastiest jerk of a pet was a black and white tegu. No amount of handling would calm that maniac down. The only way we were able to handle him was with thick welders gloves.

oh my goodness! I LOVE Calvin. Very nice pics too. You are an angel for rehoming him. He looks like a good boy who loves his- ...er your- shoe. How's the maintenance compared to your planted tank?

P.S. When you get the time you should make a thread of all your pets. In the poly section of course. :)

That top left pic is awesome! LOL

Dragon maintenance compared to the planted tank.... kind of hard to compare the two. I can’t go for vacation and leave him for a week so I guess he’s probably higher maintenance in general but it’s not difficult once you have the right equipment and temps. I do have to prepare a little salad every morning so that’s a little more time-consuming than throwing pellets or tilapia in the tank.

My pet list isn’t long: Doberman Silas, Frenchie/chihuahua mix Scout, Beardie Calvin. :)
