Back from 5 week vacation

Maybe... You should find a local person who could of helped you before you left living creatures that depend on you before you left for five weeks... Five weeks can be a lifetime for someone!

Maybe...not everyone wants to let someone who they just met have full access to their house for 5 weeks...

When your on vacation, 99% of the time the fish will be better off if you don't have anyone take care of them. Most of the time if someone has an issue, its because of the person they had watch their tank. There is plenty of evidence of this if you search the forum...

And most healthy fish can easily go 5 weeks, as long as the tank is setup correctly. They can go a long time without eating.

^+1, just got back from a week vacation, left my dad in charge... One tank had its filter burn out and he continued to over feed... Tank smelt so bad but luckily my pair of Bolivian rams in the tank lived. I should have just left it for a week

None of my friends understand fish and I was not about to hand my key to LFS people!

It was a good thing my parents came when they did. They can adjust the angle of the spray bar but I would not trust them to feed or do emergency repairs. It was a great relief to me that the water on the floor was not due to a leaking tank.

I need the job where you can take 5 weeks of continuous vacation! Longest I've gone is 2 weeks...and yeah, I don't trust anyone with my fish!

PS ecoli, I expect you to take notice of my current avatar ;-)
LOL.

There are things called float valves, they open when tank water falls and close when the tank is full, you can attach it to plumbing and turn your tap on, or on a filled reservoir. It will add water to your tanks as evaporation reduces it.
I use them on my sumps (have also had them on tanks), because on more than one occasion (when during a water change)I have forgotten to turn water off when refilling, and flooded the house. I'll get a pic later today.

Time to setup an auto drain and auto drip system. Then just place a days food in zipolck bags or little dixxie cups and have people feed that each day or two. Problem all solved.

Sorry, the pic shows up upside down.

I took it off the tank to get a pic.
Water enters the tank on the right, as the tank fills, the red float is pushed up, and closes the flow.
You could do the same thing with a toilet flush valve.
