I think it looks more like Short Body. Bonsai don't have that big of tail. Bonsai or more balloon shaped with little to no tail. Very nice color and kok doe!

I would have to agree with Alex562. Bonsai are more balloon shaped, and most have a pointed mouth. Bonsai's tail's are also different.

I'm looking at it more its like a cross between a bonsai and a short body lol

I can see why you would say it's a cross between bonsai and short body....maybe it's a short short body? lol

Bonsai for sure! The length of the fish from mouth to caudle peduncle should be less than one and one half times the depth of the fish. Yours is about one and one quarter. He is one fine specimen! Worth every penny IMO. Myself, I have a 100 dollar limit when it comes to fish but I think I would have made an exception for him.

Good point on the body length. I'll have to measure. I agree that it's a fine specimen and worth every penny, obviously cuz i bought it....lol. He's the reason why I've gotten back into FH's.

I took the measurements from your picture of him. He's good lol. I surely would have done the same! If I didn't have the money at the time I would have left a deposit and sold something!

His kok could still develop, depending on age, if he was under stress at the prior location, or nutrition. I've personally purchased an 10 in male before and his kok size expanded due to being in a much larger tank and fed a better nutrition. All depends on the fish and the care it's given! Nice fish by the way! :)
