A sump looks like a really good idea! Only problem is: more of a setback until i get my fishies :irked:. However, the more money i save, the more i can put into this tank!

On another subject, I would like to consider the possibility of tank mates. I am thinking a shoal of Paracheirodon simulans, Hemigrammus erythrozonus, two common plecos, and a generous amount of Palaemonetes paludosus. From what I have read, all these fish should do well with adult pygos. That being said, I am buying the reds are juvies, so i question the longevity survival of these fish. Should i introduce the tank mates first? Also considering a mixture of fake/real plants, but i am afraid these little guys will tear the plants to pieces. Marsilea quadrifolia is a favorite of mine.

Any particular reason you choose to use devil's ivy F1 VET? It really is a genius idea, but I would like to explore other plant options.

if you are keeping a shoal, there's plenty of activity going around in the tank, so I don't know why you want to add any other tank mate, the plecos will produce more waste than what they help cleaning up. and tetras will be snack very soon.
if you are going with a large solo piranha, like a manueli or a rhombeus then you can try with smaller tank mates to help add some activity in the tank but with a shoal don't really see the need unless you are using them as dither fish to help reduce the aggressive among the piranhas.

any tank mate you add to a piranha tank is potential a goner but if you must, add the tank mate in (use them as cycling fish) first then add the p, this way they will have better chance of living longer, IME at least.

Drastic reduction in nitrates thus less water changes. My wc schedule is cut in half since my pothos took off w/ minimal light and a great place for baby fish or fry to hide in the roots not to mention it purifies the air you breath.

Pothos or devils ivy is particularly good at consuming ammonia before the transition to n03 but it also consumes n03. Either way 20$ investment for 50% reduction in nitrates....? Win win my man

I have decided to put off this project until i move into my new house. I am moving in less than a month now, which doesn't give me enough time to cycle the tank, ect. i'll keep you guys updated!
