Hi Dan how big's your tank ? the price for these back grounds are quite expensive i'd like a 183cm x 60cm it would cost me a bomb !!

this is the largest rena they make its just shy of 7ft. i got it from my mates LFS and paid 70 quid for it.. bargain the actual tank was even cheaper!!

I'm going to make my own i think i've been looking up materials going to make a mold from a good tree and roots out of plaster then attach it to a board then fill it with the expanding foam take the mold off i'll then be left with the back ground.

My only concerns would be what sort of paint to use on it when i come to adding the life like detail. I'd need something which would stay on when fully submerged in water something non toxic to fish. Also i'd like a good adhesive to stick it to the glass.

If anyone has any in put they would like to add to point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it !

im not sure bouyt the paints but you could consider a masonary paint thats water based? check out "sandtex" the paint is water based but once dry its going knowhere. as for the foam you have the flaoting issue.
