As the years go on in this hobby i see myself purchasing more expensive fish and its about time i get one. I live in northeast PA and rarely loose power. Only once in a great while due to some small rain or snow storms but nothing major. I would need one that will run the following equipment.

84 watt return pump x3
800 watt heater x2
300 watt heater x3
20 watt canister filter x3

Any recommendations for a decent quality generator under $300 that can handle this load?.......thanks!

I'd aim for a 4000 watt genny for peace of mind, Wal Mart and Home Depot both carry them. As for brand I have no idea for under 3 bills. DuroStar was a cheaper brand I know of.

Yea under 300 bucks I don't know about that. Honestly to do what you want and still have a little extra juice for other things in your house which you might as well have gonna be closer to 700 $ plus for anything decent.

Like you said that you don't lose power often and it does happen in rare occasion then for how long? If the loss no more than 8 hours then I wouldn't worry much about your live stock, they are not gonna die few hours without power. Anyway, the bigger the better I would buy a big generator rather than buy cheap one...You're already spend "that much money on fishes" why try to stay in budget for something that you scare to "lose"?

Longest power has been out was 3 hours in the last 5-7 years

I don't know if you have a Harbor Freight Tools near you, but their generators are really inexpensive and work well. I bought one to run a ton of stuff, it was a fraction of the cost and more power than the ones at home depot. Its loud, but so what...
