Background color for views cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Could also "crush then straight" up some brown recycled packing paper and stick it from the outside . It would be a nice brown with some creases being darker brown and etc. Just a thought, but I'm definitely going to try it after my exam gets over.

Move the light to the front of the tank and use black imo

It's not quite as simple as decent coloured background = fantastic coloured fish. Yes, I'd agree that black is best but that alone might not make a diddle of difference.

Substrate plays an equally huge part, as does lighting. And even if you get all three spot on, then you have the fishes mood thrown into the mix too!

For example, an unhappy stressed out fish, due to poor tank mate choice, no matter what background, substrate or lighting you've got, will lead to washed out colours.

White backgrounds can work, you just need the fish to be healthy and feel comfortable in their surroundings. Clean water and a good diet also helps.
Ya I generally have very happy and healthy fish with the care I given them. Shooting towards a foggy white background with a Colorado sand substrate. The lighting will be kessil a360x.

I just for some reason really hate painting the background black. The foggy white I think really makes fishes colors pop more to me. At least that’s the case in my discus tanks and aquascape tanks.

Depends on the color of the fish and substrate.

Darker or deep backgrounds are best for metallic or bold colored fish.
Paler fish look better with paler backgrounds, gives an iridescent effect and shows subtle color. Dark deep backgrounds overpower pale fish, making them washed out.

Or you can go complementary color to make the fish POP like a neon sign.

White fish - blue, black, green, brown, or red background
Black fish - pale blue, pale green background, gray background, dk red background
Yellow fish - bold blue background, blue-violet background
Red fish - green background, blue-green background, black background
Orange fish - blue-green background, blue-violet background, black background
Green fish - red/burgundy background, black background

I've been in pet stores with different color backgrounds to enhance the appearance of the fish for sale.

I also used to crush craft paper and spray paint in shades, or crumple aluminum foil on the dull side and tape to the back.
