I tried black with play sand and it was too dark for my liking so I switched it to blue back with white sand. I like it a lot better. Looks brighter.

no back grounds here except looking out the Windows. some day i do need to get one on the 180, just hard to find a back ground large enof.

All you have to do is paint the outside of the back of the tank with paint i just got some acrylic paint and rolled it on the back

may be an option down the road for the 180, I like 95g and 145g in the windows open back,

As far as colors for the back glass, I have had them all over the years, and I only like black, especially for taking photos.
Here's blue, looks unnatural to me

now, same species of fish with a black background

Although sometimes black(ish) fish disappear with a black background, at times it makes for an even more dramatic effect

and for me, seeing a normal color wall, is not an option

same fish as above, below, with a piece of styrofoam insulation painted black works well, and helps to insulate against temp swings

no preference on your back grounds but love the fish :)

I have one with a natural picture background. The rest are see-thru.

I've never had a painted background(blue, black, etc...)

black but have used a light green in the past and in a planted tank it adds loads of depth
