background effect color?

Sorry I'm gonna bring this thread back because I did a search and couldn't find what I'm looking for.
So instead of starting a new one I'll try out with this one.
Has anyone used a grey background? Any effects?
Its very helpful if you have some pictures. I would love to see it as I never saw one before.

i have black background in my africa tank and their colors pop now. My husband has no background in his cichlid tank and natural gravel and the fish kind of just look all gray and black, not even the slightest color of a fish comes out. IVe been bugging him for months now to get a background.
I used to have Frontosas and thier color really came out with Black background and whiteish sand/gravel
