So this summer I purchased a 300 gallon acrylic aquarium that has a black background. I have it filled and have fish in it. the problem im having is that my fish are becoming dark and loosing there color due to going from a blue back ground to a black one. The only thing I could think that would work is to take some sheets of plastic make them blue attach suction cups and stick it to the back wall. Besides algea what else would i have to worry about by doing this. If you guess have any other suggestions please let me know. I don't have the tank space to take this down for a styrofoam back ground either.

Are you absolutely sure it's due to the background color? I mean it is likely but have you ruled out other factors? How long have the fish been in it for? If it's only been a few days could it be the stress of them adapting to their new environment? Is there different lighting on this tank? Perhaps you could change the substrate color to get them to color up more?

+1... Substrate like white gravel or light colored sand on a black background should make your fish's color pop out..

its the same light. The substraight is white sand and they have been there for almost 3 weeks now. The one fish is a flower horn the other that is changing is a salvini. Besides getting a bigger tank the only thing that changed is the back ground.
