I've been in search of a planted background image for my 150gal tank for a while. I need 72"x24.5". Obviously I can trim one thats too big, but I cannot seem to find one anywhere that is taller than 24". All the LFS's say they just paint the back of the larger tanks... but my wife has already killed that idea. Maybe I can convince her if I can get an airbrush artist to do a mural.

Anyways, where do I find the backgrounds taller than 24 inches?

Well, I got a hold of a professional sign and graphics company today and told them what I wanted. They said I'm the 1st to request such a thing, but they are completely positive they can do it. So, since its gonna cost a lot anyways, bout $150, I've decided to go wild and one-off design. Going with Medieval and Dragons and such. I'll post up pics when I get it and its installed :)

You could just add extra gravel to the bottom of the tank to make up for the 1/2" the backround is short

thats a clever fix, probably what I would do if I had that dilemma.

I thought about that, but then the substrate would be 4 inches deep. Yeah, I'm probably going to use sand, but still... 4 inches? I don't think I like that idea.

Spray paint it. Once you finally do it, you will do it to all your tanks. Its worth it and it comes right off with a razor blade.... Also if that isn't working for you, you can grab rubber pvc from home depo and spray paint that. Or you can get fabric from a craft store.

I would just spray paint it, but my last tank i glued black acrylic to the back....

paint is the looks really nice. you have to have primer mixed in or else it wont stick to glass

No paint. Wife veto'd that idea. She saw the large tanks in the LFS that are painted like so and hated the look. I'm still waiting on the graphics shop to email me some of the ideas.

$150 is way too much for a background IMO, unless it's a 3D. What about some window tint????
