Backordered Otos

I've been noticing that Oto prices have been on the rise for the past few years. I remember my lfs would sell them for $1.25 back in the day and now they sell the for $2.99. I've seen some around for $2.49, but never under $2 anymore.

Petsmart has a $1 sale on ottos right now.

Yeah my LFS sells them for like 2$. I guess thats pretty standard nowadays.

They are usually around $4 each where I live (in Canada) usually in good supply though.

I never had them live long for me. Always seem to get ich and croak in a few days. After seeing that video on how they are collected no wonder. Didn't know they were all wild caught. I would rather have an albino bushynose anyways.

Yeah well its for a planted tank. All the plecos that have been in there just love to tear my plants out. I've had to resort to a rubberlips (which I haven't yet had but they look alright) because of the algae problem. Its kinda a bummer.

I noticed the same thing here. They were a little over a dollar and are now close to 4. I couldn't find them for a few months but saw some the other day at Pet Supermarket. Much rather have ottos then plecos.

Otto's seem to come in infequently at most pet stores around here, but one of the specialty aquarium stores seem to always have nice healthy ones in stock @ >2$.
