Backwash Eheim

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If i remember correctly after connecting the hose to the backflush outlet turn the filter off then just open the outlet. Dont close the other double taps

So ur saying J jaws7777 just attach hose to backwash outlet and than close the inlet (1"). Let the outlet of 5/8" through the top to wash down the filter?

Yes but i dont remember if i closed the oitlet. I wanna say i left them both open. Try it both ways see which makes it drain faster. I used to let the filter backwash along with using a hose to drain the tank and speed up water changes

I posted a thread on this years ago. Searching the forum is easier on a computer, and I'm on my phone-or I'd look it up for you. Just search for me as author in this forum with 2262 in the text.

Oops, ran out of time to edit.

1st, unplug the power cord and close the input and output Q.D. valves and separate the halves.
2nd, attach a 4 foot length of vinyl tubing to the drain valve & hold the end in a 5 gallon pail OR attach a longer hose and direct outside or to a floor level drain.
3rd, open the drain valve and the output valve closest to the pump. Be sure to keep the output valve above the pump. Allow the filter to drain a sufficient amount of water to make it easy to remove from under the stand.

I bought a garden hose repair kit with QD fittings and leave a vinyl hose stub on the drain valve and then just connect a garden hose to drain the filter.

That's is to drain it. I need to backwash the filter? Is that the same?? Thought I close the intake and submerge the output (spray bar) and than open the back flash to make the filters pressure wash out the debris faster?? Is that the right way??

Yes if you are using HarleyK's link I posted above. I don't back wash mine due to the media I use.
