Bacteria affecting new rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
force feeding should be left as a last resort.... i mean ray is a 3 days away from death last resort.... ive nver seen the hook come out of the ray only found them in my tank... i remember the first one i found i flipped and started cursing people out... thought somebody put it in there..or tried fishing in my tank..LOL

the first time i did that i had a rod in the basement and my tackle box there with in 10 feet of the tank... hook looked like the ones i had in my box i flipped... then a phone call later when i found 2 in my tank cleared it up...

how did it come out? nice and easy?

It came out pretty easy since it was most the way out allready.
I think oodinum is what happened to the rays after they got stressed which I think is also called velvet disease. As far as seeing any signs of stress with the rays there wasn't any noticeable ones. The imports ate like no other import I had and were very active....which may have been a sign of stress with xingu or may have been normal. The one I took the hook out of is acting like every other type leo/motoro ray and is eating pretty good, so I'm thinking the one xingu will make it for sure the other 2 that are left I'm pretty much counting out.

Well I'm glad that at the very least you got to the bottom of it. Better to know what was wrong then to have to try and keep guessing at it.

Well I got to the bottom of one for sure.lol Just hope it was the stress of the one causing the problems with the rest. The other 2 xingu still aren't even looking at food. The one closest to death keeps rising it's front up to almost vertical and then lays it back down flat on the bottom over and over for the last 3 days. No clue what it's telling me but can't be good.

Okay time for a little update. I started treating with 1-1.5lbs of salt per 100 gallons, temp at 86, nitrofurazone and no light on the 11th. In 2 days the male sh*t the hook out and began eating the next day. 2 Days after that the other female began to eat. As of 2 days ago the last female began to eat a little and scratching was down to a minimal with it. So the white spots on the male are completely gone and the one female still has some on it and may have gained a few more.
The rays seem to be doing better and are not reacting to the salt so I will continue with the treatment but up the salt levels slowly to 2-2.5 lbs per 100 gallons until all the white spots are gone.
Oh ya I am changing out 1/3 of the water every 2-3 days and treating only the volume of water that is being re-added. I'm thinking maybe another 1-2 weeks of treament will be needed.

thats crazy bout the hook coming out like that! good to see there doing better now
