So you never treated with high salt and temp from the beginning?

I did start out as you suggested with temp at 90,removed substrate, salt at 4lbs per 100 gallons. I could not find binox in Canada so I tried furan 2 instead and it messed with my rays. I thought I only needed to treat for one treatment at the time and did not understand that this was actually aflagellate problem and not bacteria. So db ended up sending me some binox so I began to retreat again as suggested but my rays where swimming all over the place, laying upside down on the bottom and refusing to eat. I found if I cut down on the salt they did better and also found out that I should not be using prime when medicating. So after I got it all figured out I went back to some just h20 water changes and got the meds out. The rays still would not eat at this point so added nitrofurazone and salt at 1 lbs per 100 gallons. The rays have began to eat but I noticed my one ray was getting white/yellowish dots on the outer edge of the disc so I upped the salt to 2 lbs per 100 gallons and the one is acting weird again swimming erratically and not eating. The other 2 are eating but have cut back. So I'm kinda in a jam. I need to up my salt to kill the flagellates but risk problems with my rays or keep it at 1 lbs per 100 gallon and risk the outbreak more. I'm not sure if the furan 2 caused something to make the rays so sensitive to salt or it was just the water changes with prime from before. Anyway I'll probably go back to 1lbs per 100 gallons until the rays can put on more weight. If you have any other advice Mike I could sure use it. I should have asked you more details at the start and I wouldn't have been in this mess. ;)

Not the salt causing the eratic display your rays are showing, trust me I only treat with salt when i really have problems but have never seen these type of problems caused by the salt. I have never used the furan before but i would assume that is what is causing the eratic problems with your rays and not the salt levels. Go back to basic treatment salt, temp and binox keep the salt at 1-2lbs per 100 gallons it will still work just takes longer.

I only used the furan 2 for 3 days at the start and quit because my rays breathing became very heavy and they stopped eating. I have been using nitrofurazone and 1 lb of salt per 100 gallons for about 12 days now and the rays were eating but upped it to 2lbs 2 days ago since I was seeing new white/yellow spots appear (I have good pics I will post later) that were recent. You can actually see a dark spot and then a red cyst developing around it which will turn white/yellow. None of my other rays have ever reacted to salt but the ones I had in this tank that I moved at the start will also react to salt in 2lbs per 100 gallons plus concentrations. I moved these rays after the furan 2 episode.
Thanks for the help Mike it's always good to get some other opions on what a guy is doing since I was second guessing myself. I will go back to the 1-1.5 pounds per 100 gallons, nitrofurazone, temp, and dark for now and see what happens in another week or so. I will post the pics too later so you can see if I'm on track or off track. What's the longest you have had to treat any of your rays with this problem?

So it's been 21 days since my last update. I've been treating with 1lb of salt per 100 gallons and the tank completely covered. Removed the nitrfurazone out of the system about 2 weeks ago.
I must have diagnosed wrong or am not understanding the problem. The 2 rays are eating good and the one is hungry but doesn't seem to be able to swallow or doesn't want to since it pouces on food chews it and then spits out, even bloodworms (it was eating anything before this). Water changes are still every 2 to 3 days at 40% on my 300.
Th only weird behavior still is they won't rest on the bottom and they go into a corner to try and scratch there mouths.
My thought was flagellates but not sure now. Here's a closeup of the cyst type things on the edge of the one xingu only (it i one of the ones eating). These dots have not dissapeared at all but got worse in the last 3 weeks.
Can anybody confirm my thoughts. If nothing I guess I'll start upping the salt again slowly to the 4lbs per 100 gallons and gofrom there.

Per your request i have come and checked.... I have NEVER!!! seen anything like that.... they look like blisters... I would PM a link to david Webber and ask him if he has a clue.... only thing i can tell you if it was me i would full dose maracyn and maracyn 2 right now after a tank flush and about a half pound per 100 gallon on the salt

Have you and would you squeaze one? see if they are hard or soft? do they come and go?
