bacterial bloom..should i do a water change?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats a lot of ammonia...From just fishless cycling my 55 I would guess I would have to use 1/4 cup pure ammonia to hit 8ppm. Unless you werent checking it for a long time I dont think over feeding could cause you to go from 0 to 8ppm. Even a large dead fish in there shouldnt cause it to go that high. I guess I would buy some cheap fish and a bottle of cycle and see what happens. May as well do a good vacuum of the gravel since It doesnt appear there is any BB there anyhow in case it is rotting food causing it.

since the ph is at 6.6, does that make the ammonia less toxic to the fish?
not really at that level i think
how long should it take to cycle?
naturally weeks, with good bacteria supplement a week or so
did i kill the BB by doing so many water changes?
no they probably died from the high ammonia, above 5ppm they start to die
should the water still be cloudy beacuse it isnt cloudy anymore?
the cloudiness is a different type of bacteria i wouldnt worry about it
and can i use the bacteria in the bottle that they sell?
im a bit late as youve got it already

thanks for the help

BB dies when ammonia is above 5ppm? ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

i think its higher than 5 right now and im using stability

hopefully its not all did, if i remember what ive read correctly. above 5 a few start to die, when you hit 10 alot are supposed to be dead.

nutcase would probably remember the info better then me.

should i do a massive water change and start everything over with the stability?
it probably varies by strain too. seachem seems quite proud of there strain.

i wouldnt do anything drastic just yet

i guess you could take this to be relevant or not
When other bacteria begin to die off (usually from high organic loads caused by the undetected death of an organism), Stability® simply works harder and grows faster!
