Bad, Bad news...

to be honest, the presence of E. Coli bacteria in your water likely won't hurt your fish at all..nor would it cause fungus. However, the presence of these bugs indicates contamination with feces, which could mean that other contaminants could be in the water supply. it does depend on the count though. a few E.Coli per litre won't do anything to your fish but of course can be very bad to humans if you ingest it..

the strain of Ecoli that causes problems (OH157) is not the same strain that is found in all of our stomachs. thats the problem.

be careful. boil all drinking water before use until you recieve notice that everything is safe.

Do you know what the E.Coli count was?

I work in the industry (I am a wastewater treatment plant operator).

Is your water from a local water treatment plant? or is it via a well (that is often chlorinated as a precaution)?

once again, be careful and good luck!

That's what I was thinking. I don't think that E Coli will harm your fish.
