good call, but i would breed mollies or something. they need less space and have bigger fry. and you can keep more than one pair in the same tank. just an idea

sorry to hear the news 
but hang in there and get back to the fish....sometimes the best learning experience is loss and it makes you appreciate what you have so much more the second time around....everyone has had their fish situations of one type or another along the way which has led to losses;whether it be mixing the wrong fish,water issues,or medicating ect....
