Bad decision? Jardini+Gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have heard of several experiences where the Jar will get along fine for a year to 18 months...then bam...they wake up one morning and the Jar has killed everything in the tank.

My best guess would probably be a fish store.

...there's no fooling you, huh PoopSmart. God...I needed that laugh.

Jars aren't that hard to find. Like PoopSmart said, any lfs would probably be able to get one for you.

It's usually the 8" mark. I've heard the same thing, but my guy is now getting close to the 18" mark and I don't have any problems with him.

It's a gamble, no doubt, but I would say have a plan just in case a jar decides that it's HIS tank. :D

No one can really give you a sure answer until you try them out yourself.

if you do, for best chance, start with young fish.... pellet train both within a month, keep the general tank aggression to a minimum if there are other tankmates. thats the best start i think yo can give them.... If you get the odd nip and peck, then koji's bubble screen idea work to break up aggression in my com too so it may be a useful tool.... other than thats its all down to the fish to decide if they like each other....

Im gonna try it.. Im gonna a really small Jar..and raise it wish a lot of fish so it does'nt become aggressive..and then introduce the jar with the gar...

Give me a month to get the Jar.. Ill keep ya updated..
that's what I'm trying. so far, so good, but it's only 5". jars are easy to find around here, but i've never seen a true gar

Dont do it dude, my friend put an alligator gar in with his jardini.. lets just say the gar had taste for sushi over night..
