I plan on having a 200 gallon(7x2x2)
Tank setup with a 75 gallon sump and a fluval fx5 for filtration. In it I plan to have just my frontosa colony. I really like the freshwater stingrays, and I have done research on keeping them. My questions are:
1. Is there a ray out there that wouldn't outgrow this tank?(I know that it would have to be a very small ray)
2. Is it a bad idea to put rays in with frontosa?(I know fw stingrays are from the Americas, and fronts are from Africa, but would that be a deal breaker since fronts are so docile?)

You'll be fine, I'd just worry about the tank size if you expect to keep them for life. besides that i keep my rays with Goliath african tigerfish, vittatus tigerfish both from africa with no problems at all.

no frontosas need a high ph and stingrays need a low ph!!!!

Ive never had a problem with the ph of my tank being at 7.0, dont know if thats right or wrong but rays seem to enjoy it :/

I read a thread on here somewhere that said that since most rays are captive bred, they are a bit more forgiving as far as pH and hardness? If not then I'm totally out of luck until I move to another state. The pH out of the tap is at about 8 where I live :(

the fronts need up in the 8 range, and rays need no higher than 7.6

As long as you aclimate them rays are fine in high PH, the PH in my ponds is around 8 and my rays are healthy. While its true there natural environment is relatively low PH, in the 6s, they can adjust to high PH.

For a permanent home your tank is a little on the small side, if you could add another foot making it a 7'x3' footprint you could keep hystrix or retics in there for life.

Retic or hystrix and I think its all good. Unless after a few years they go over a 12 inch disk diameter (may or may not) then I say its time to go wider (front to back).
