G altifrons is from a wide range in the Amazon region, and can be found from black to white water, and because of this, it is less sensitive to higher pH than many Geophagines. (Weidner 2000)
I have kept altifrons with Madagascan cichlids, and they have successfully spawned in alkaline waters with a pH of 7.6 - 8.
The peacocks would seem to me to be benign tankmates, but the mbuna may be a bit rougher and could end up stressing out the altifrons, and thus leaving your tank open to a stress induced disease outbreak, such as bloat.
G altifrons do get large, @10" and can get aggressive themselves in a tank smaller than a 6' footprint, they also prefer a bit of current, as they are riverine species, and as stated above, prefer to live in groups of 6 or more. I keep old world and new world cichlids together quite often, and find they tend to ignore each other, but proper selection is the key.

Housing fish together with different color and body types works for me , as they don't see each other as competition. An extra hospital tank should be ready in case it doesn't work, and the new fish gets shredded though.
