Bad Metal Stand, should I return? Nice Pictures!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the stands do not have vertical supports because they are designed to have a tank underneath as well.

you can see my old fishroom was full of them. all with gaps :) for almost 20 years. (till I moved out lol)

the stand should not fail, tube steel is extremely strong.

actually, probably much stronger than the prefab wood or particle board stands available from the LFS..

I would take it back and get a wood cabinet.

I wouldn't sleep at night knowing the tank was on that stand.

I still have the wood cabinet stand. I'm having a hard time trying to level it, fill the tank with water, and then not having it warp...

I shimmed the length of every support pillar of the wood stand to get it perfectly level and supported... and it started warping up at the front in 2 places (inbetween the middle pillar and both side pillars).

thats the problem with the prefabricated wood stands. even the good ones (Perfecto, aqueon, oceanic) etc are only held together with wood staples and glue.

thats why I have always gone with the steel ones, since I am not handy. if you want a really well made wooden stand, you need to build it or have it built for you.

the advantage of the tube steel ones is that they are much stronger than the prefab wood ones from the LFS.

the disadvantage is that most people find them totally ugly. I don't.

but most do.

also you can't hide your canisters etc. underneath, but you can put another tank on the bottom which is awesome if your floors can handle the weight.

yeah, the bowing in the center is alarming only because its not what we are used to seeing.

but it doesn't mean that the tank is not properly supported.

as long as it is a glass tank that is flat and level, corner (end) support is all that is needed.

as difficult as that is to accept.

I had additional support put in the middle of the stand because I was paranoid that you guys are wrong thinking that as long as the tow ends of the tank are supported then it would be okay..

Im not sure if the additional feet in the middle of the tank is needed but im sure I wouldnt be thinking anytime soon about the gap underneath the middle portion of the tank..thats one big reason I had additional support installed..

id sleep sounder with the center support added also.
hope to see some pics when it is full and stocked.
