you said he was almost dead so did he die or are you trying to bring him back if he is still alive i would put him in a smaller tank by himself to heal add salt and raise temp and dont feed for a few days that for sure

after looking at it more and you said he ate the fish 3/4 his size this morning, i am thinking it probably burst. The spins on a rbp wouldn't do it, but just the shear size if he moved after eating it his skin probably tore. It looks more like a tear than a bite when I look closer.
he ate that pb 3 weeks ago, cant be it imo. did you cut him open to check the inside of the belly? could be some sort of disease that caused him to bloat. ive recently seen that happen with an african catfish (clarius gariepinus). for no obvious reason it just bloated like crazy and the skin on his belly just burst open. the fish died.

someone posted a while back about their tig bloating and dying. Must be something common in catfish. Relatively anyway.
