I've ran extension cords for a 60 amp battery charger a block and it still worked..... not as well as it should but then again show me a filter that draws near what a battery charger does. I'm willing to bet it would work just fine. Or like I mentioned earlier take a c-note to Walmart and get a DC to AC converter and your problem is solved.........

:iagree: thats pry your best bet

although with just a normal 15amp circuit depending what type of filtration and heaters you have running much more than 300-500 feet you'd be pushing your luck trying to run an extesion cord that lenth.

did your bio filter die 100% or is it coming back around?

i still don't have power however was able to get a generator last night. if i did not get this there is no question i would have lost all rays. i have done a ton of water changes. only one tank with ammonia this morning did water change and tank looks good. rays are very stressed but doing well for the situation.don't think i wont get power till sat. filters are ether recovering or are recycling. fed rays and eating . man this has been rough i hope things go well i am on very little sleep. now i think i know what it is like to be a farmer with emergency situations.

hey Pat yes power came on Fri around 1:00 or 2:00 pm. all rays seem to be doing much better. what a relief. now i am prepared and i would strongly recommend a generator to anyone with rays it is amazing how fast a ray tank can crash.

Eddie at Bluegrass cichlids is still without power from that same storm. He has hundreds if nto thousands of fish, but actually experienced a derease in his daily losses (if you keep tha tmany fish you WILL lose some ask any retailer) because he started treating his tanks with some bacteria products he started carrying. I do not know the name of the product but I used some on a few tanks to see if it did as it claimed. It stank to high heaven but the tanks I put it in DID exhibit greater clarity and a reduction in algae and mulm (sometimes it accumulates in hard to get areas of my tanks, I am not meticulous in cleaning my tanks).

EDIT: Eddie's tanks are running with sponge filters that he added and ran off an old blower powered via generator. IMO it has not been nearly cold enough so far to pose any risk from the tanks getting cold. Eddie has his tanks in a absement and none were heated during the last week. He stated he lost maybe 5 or so fish a day. Very low losses out of a thousand or so small africans and central americans with no filtration.
