Baffles for rubbermaid tote sump?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just went to check out totes in the hardware store. Do I need to buy a specific thickness of tote so as to prevent against too much bowing? Any strength grade or purpose specific totes i need or do you guys reinforce them? How do I link plastic totes with bulkheads fittings without them leaking due to bowing?

I think I'm just going to buy the biggest one I can fit under the stand, double it up, cut out the lid and zip tie it to the tote for extra support. And then just make a good auto top off. Ill check all thr hardware and farm stores first for stock tanks or troughs first for sure, problem is finding the right diension for under the stand. Anyone hear of a heater damaging one at all?

The trick with the lid will help. I've kept fish in totes and I put my totes on foam. it helps support the bottom evenly since most totes have little molded feet that dint give good surface area to contact and support everything.

Ive stacked totes inside each other, but cut the bottom off of the outside tote so its just like a sleeve

Can always build one of these around your heater. Pvc, two end caps, pvc glue, dirt cheap.

Just drill holes in the pipe and split one cap after you drill for the power cord. Like 10 minutes.

Oh cool, I didn't think of cutting out the bottom, makes sense that it will strengthen it, in your opinion is it better than having the extra one as a fail safe against floods?

You can always just set the heater on a piece of polycarbonate, glass, or slate.
