Bagarius sp. - You tell me!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
by the looks its more like a bagarius bagarius, by the growth sounds like yarelli.

the yarelli that I get in the past have heavily mottled pattern, this looks much like the bagarius bagarius that I had during the summer.

according to some researchers the true bagarius bagarius have never been exported before. This could be a geographical variance also, as some come from thailand, and some from india.

Definitely not suchus though, obviously.

Red Tigrinis -- Nice meeting you at Pedro's when you picked that "Bad Boy" up! Not sure which type it is, hopefully dieselmack ( The Bag Expert ) will get off his lazy ass and chime in :) )

It looks like a Bagarius rutilus to me...Check on planet catfish for more info if you are not familiar with rutilus.

..both yarrellis I had/ and 1 big one I still have were mottled and grow at a very fast rate not slowing until approx 14-15"....I had a b. bagarius that attained approx 9-10" but didnt grow after that for a full two years maintained that max size

Next time he has his fins erect check these ray counts:
Dorsal spines (total): 1 - 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6 - 6; Anal soft rays: 12 – 13;12-13 pectoral-fin rays;caudal fin with 8-9 rays.
see if these match up with what you have.

awsome fish
