My first NTT:( Came home from work and noticed the ITs were acting weird. I looked at the surface and saw my NTT floating there. Looks kind of weird...maybe bloated?

Nope..these guys haven't had any feeders in years. I tested the water and the Nitrites were high, but I'm not sure how long the fish was dead for (at least a few hours, I'm assuming). So it might've fouled the water?

It didn't have popeye yesterday. Seems that the bloating happened after death, I'm assuming.

Sorry for the loss. My 10" IT's dead body had a bloated tummy, but I know he didn't have a bloat 8 hours before he died. In fact he hadn't eaten for several days, and his tummy was actually sunken a little bit. So I think dats have a bloated look after death.

So, do you still think it is safe to have small dats with bigger ones? I will be putting a 2.5"-3" NTT into a tank with two 10" IT's soon...

I think it should be fine. I actually measured my little NTTs and they are actually smaller than I thought. I would still trust my 10 IT with them. I was actually thinking of moving this NTT (was at 6.5") to spread the aggression out between the 2 smaller NTT (at 1.5"), but looks like that plan's been thrown out the window:(
