Figured I'd ask this here.

Just got back into fishing and was at Dick's the other day and picked up a Pinnacle Deadbolt baitcasting reel on clearance for $17 (regularly $70). Figured it was so cheap I would check it out and take it back if it sucked.

Well, I've been doing pretty well with it so far only a couple of backlashes after I got it "tuned". My question is it seems like if I try to put more muscle behind my cast that's when it'll backlash...if I'm just smoothly casting the line I don't have any issues and get decent distance out of the cast so I'm not complaining, but would like to know what to do adjustment wise to be able to cast even further with some elbow grease behind the cast.

Currently have the brake set so that whatever tackle I'm using drops slowly when I release it and running my magnetic break on 9 (out of 10).

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

set the breaks on 2/3 for distance and backlash. When your good enough go zero breaks. remember to lightly thumb the spool when you cast

it also helps to keep them clean too they last a little longer when they are kept up i wont be using ambassador any more i like quantum and daiwa and pen best pinnacles are good too

If I keep with it I'll probably buy something nicer...wife would've killed me if I spent a bunch of money the way I change hobbies lol.

What line do you guys recommend? I'm currently running standard 12lb Stren on it.

what are you going for? I recommend fluro carbon line for mono or 30lb braid. I use braid for my reels, less stretch, stronger than mono, abrasion and small line diameter for strength. 30lb braid is like 12ln mono diameter. I just use my curado 201 for Stripe Bass/LMB/ Whatever takes the lures. Brought in alot of Sting Rays as by catch for halibut. FYI Curado not intended for salt water use but does great but do clean n lube after each use.
