Baitcaster Question

try Braid with a Fluro Carbon Shock Leader. Use a swivel or a braid to Mono knot. I would get a second rod n reel and go one braid and one Mono. I go braid bc I can hook up into a 30+ inch stripe bass and want that stronger braid just in case, since your targeting LMB I would go with Fluro Carbon Mono for your reel. Go get Em!

I'd go with mono. Braid is awful for casting especially with wind. You'll constantly get birds nests with. The only time I'd use braid it for bottom fishing offshore wrecks or flounder fishing inshore or offshore. It's great stuff you can feel everything but when it comes to constantly casting I'd stay away from it. Your 12lb mono is perfect for what you're doing. If you feel like the mono is scaring fish off I'd go with a flouro leader

set the breaks on 2/3 for distance and backlash. When your good enough go zero breaks. remember to lightly thumb the spool when you cast

Thanks again for the advice, I went out yesterday and tried this and was getting some crazy distance out of my casts. I did have a couple bad backlashes at first, but got the hang of it pretty quickly.

I ended up replacing my 12lb Stren Mono with 50lb SpiderWire Stealth Braid and after some initial practicing in my yard it seems like I can get much more distance on my casts and it seems to not want to backlash as much too so double bonus!
