Baitcasting?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
penn can be used for both, but were made for salt, so overall they are a bigger reel, i just took a look at basspro, and theres nothing under 10 oz, but those are spinning reels.

shimano . dawia . Quantum . abu garcia . etc are all good low profile reel's . but it all come's down to what type of fishing your doing , plus how much you wanna spend . the latest and greatest shimano is about $600 .:naughty:

IMO if you have never used a low profile reel by one for around $40 to $60 and see if you like this type of reel it's not easy but not imposible to learn to use this reel .. :D

IME, shimano reels are some of the best you can buy. Daiwa I have found are not made with the same quality. They are not as smooth when reeling, and their bearing systems are not as good. They are lighter, but I think that is because many of the parts are made with cheaper plastics. I have all Shimano Spinning reels, and a Flueger baitcaster, and love them all.

I stay away from Shimano dont get me wrong I just dont like them. Daiwa I think make better reels and they are around the same price as the Shimanos. The Calcutta is mainly for heavyer type fishing like going deep or throw heavy baits. The other is more of a low profile reel. Another thing is what will you be useing these reels for?

Reels are a preference thing it’s a good idea if you can get them both have a go I my self prefer Daiwa over Shimano I have them both I have found the clutches smother on the Daiwa but once again that’s me;) my mate I fish with all the time like Shimano and hates my reel.

Reels are a personal thing try out a few then get what you prefer.

I gotta say I love everything Abu ,I have spinning and baitcasters.... but the amount of drag they can produce is amazing 26lbs on a low pro.
