Baked..driftwood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, I have it in there at 200...just leaving the oven "cracked" open so the it can stick out a little.

I did scrub it down really good with salt water...all the bark is removed and wow my house is smellin a little strange but, hey what can I say!!! I have never baked it before, usually boil it just moving the pieces around to get all sides.

Funny last time I boiled some, my son and his friends came home...of coarse hungry as they are teens...my boy's buddy was like "Hey Mom, watcha cookin" and went over to the pot..the look on his face was Priceless!!

I'll let ya'll know how it turns out and post up some pics when I get it done.

Thanks for all the thoughts guys!!!!!! :)

Hey, I just thought of something....since I am drying it out, is it going to float now, it was sunk when I got it out of the water...but just thought of that, isn't being dry what makes it float?

Even if it floats for a while, it will still sink again :)

I know it will sink again, I'm just impatient and was hoping to not have to wait for the sinking stage LMAO!!

Oh, well...I'll just put a slate rock or something on it. ;)

I wouldn't do that either.. If the rock slips or gets bumped, bad bad news...

FINE...I'll intertwine it with other pieces of driftwood?? LOL!

It will drive me insane just floating :irked:

It will sink eventually....there is no hurry:) I have a piece that still floats, I've boiled it 5 times, and soaked it for three months...It is almost at neutral buoyancy now...I kind of like the way it looks.

Well, yeah...yours looks fine, like it should look that way or something..but these would really float...like at the top.

Here this is what I've done for now. I don't like it at all though and will be moving it around ALOT!

But in moving everything this brought up a new question for me..."Deodorant"
For me to reach the bottom of my tank, as I'm not very tall and my tank is...I have to stand on the table it is on, with my "man beater" on and am literally up to my arm pits....well, of coarse I use deodorant am I putting my fish in danger? I mean no I didn't JUST put it on...but it is still there???

Well anyway here are the pics, the rocks are very heavy and I have never had them move em on me before so I think they should be ok??

You can tie the slate on with fishing line, or screw it on. Balancing large heavy rocks on top of driftwood in a glass container filled with many gallons of water (and possibly expensive fish) is not a fantastic idea.

I didn't balance them on it...I can see where that could cause a huge problem...I just made like a little "cave" laying it over the bottom of the piece, and adding other driftwood that has already sank, to it....like I said though I really do not like the way it looks, way to just well bleck...so I'm sure I'll be rearranging it soon. I don't know, maybe I will end up just letting them float:(
