Baking gravel

Why would you ruin the gravel by leaving it wet? It will dry on it's own, eventually no?

I just needed the gravel to dry quickly so I could use it for something. I wasn't sure if anything bad could happen to it from being in the oven. Nothing happened and it worked just fine
