Bala Shark and Iridescent shark

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What are you going to do with them when you can't keep them anymore? I wouldn't consider just dumping them at a LFS a viable option. Unless you actually know of someone that would really be willing to keep them, just don't get them

Balas are FAST and will bang themselves up pretty well when spooked, be ready. They do better (more secure and less skidish) in groups. I would avoid ID's all together.

Suggestion: Instead of balas, have you looked into flagtails? They have a very similar shape, better colors, will help with algea, are not aggressive and do not need a group. This would leave you options for other stock? (or balas and a flagtail)

Actually, flagtails can be pretty aggressive with other flagtails or similar fish. I had to get rid of my silver dollars cause I was afraid mine was eventually going to kill them. Flagtails are awesome fish though. They get bigger than balas though, so I wouldn't keep one in a 110 very long.

I have 3 bala's and I must say the are easily frightened, however the 3 I have seem to do just fine but where happier when there where 6 of them.

here's what i have to say contrary to all the people that suggested and commented on your question without even asking if you are gonna upgrade or have a pool/pond. well, you have a good maybe 3 to 4 months for an ID shark in there, maybe 5 months. but until you can't upgrade within the said span of time, don't consider getting ID's.

ive got 3 IDs and a paroon that are all somewhere around 1.5 - 2 years old... none of them are over 7"... youve got some time...

however these are the most mindless fish i have ever owned and will be moving to the pond once they are bigger than snack size.. such stupid stupid stupid fish that crash around the tank slaming fullspeed into the walls whenever anything moves...

I dont need to ask if he is going to upgrade or not it is foolish to buy fish that will outgrow your tank until the point in time you actually have a tank that can house them properly. LFS and craigslist are full of pacu and other similar large fish that people intended to upgrade tanks for. Plans dont always work out and it is the fish that suffer from people who dont have the patience to do it right.

OK i see that id sharks may not be the best for me so i have a 110 gallon and i want a big fish for life. What would you suggest.
