Yes, they've reached that size in the 55

Oh ok, do you mind me asking how long it took for them to reach that size?

I'm not sure... a friend of mine had them for awhile and as soon as I started to see them get big I started on this 180 project... been some set backs on it tho and lost one of the 10" Bala Sharks tonight...

Sorry for your loss. Medication can and will mess up a cycle I had that happen to me, but I still think you should be changing water and dosing with prime.

I am using Melafix as per the daily dose for 7 days... I read online & had a few people at the fish store tell me its a natural product that won't mess up the biological media and so far it doesn't seem like it has...

I've also been using a Stress Coat to help... I did these both last night after I pulled the dead one out. The levels spiked a bit b/c I believe the dead one was in there for a good 10-15 minutes before I got home from getting Melafix. After I changed out 15 gallons of the tank water for RO water and did the Stress Coat & Melafix, it's seemed to have been helping so far as the other 2 Balas are still acting normal. I guess only time will tell b/c when my other Bala died last night it was pretty instant from him going from bad to worse to dead...

Your fish are suffering from Ammonia Burn.

You need to keep doing consistent water changes, and I found that adding stress coat helps because of the Aloe in it.

Melafix, and Pimafix are junk.

Yes, I've used stress coat the past 2 days now... I was told the Melafix would help w/ the body & mouth fungus that they seem to be showing (from the pix I posted in my first initial post) I was also told and read online that it was a natural remedy that would help w/ fungus' and not mess with what little biological I have since the tank is only 7-8 wks old.

Just now, I had the smaller Bala Shark die... basically everything I'm trying or even why I try to do nothing at all to the tank isn't working...

I took a water sample to a fish store & had them do a wide test on everything... basically my water isn't great, but it isn't horrible... they determined that the Prime & Stability is locking up the ammonia in its non-toxic form. What killed my 2 Balas is a fungus that we're now treating with Maracyn. The 2 that died showed signs of of their slime coat flaking, cloudy eye & right before they die - gasping for air...

We pulled the biomedia I had and put it in a 5 gallon bucket w/ tank water & aeration to keep it alive while we do the Maracyn treatment. Hopefully my last Bala makes it...

Oh yeah, 3 medications on top of one another will definitely help! Not.

Not to sound rude, but here is what you NEED to do.

Get rid of ALL fish in tank.. Drain it completely... clean filters... Fill tank... and let it cycle COMPLETELY before adding fish.

This all could have been avoided.

It sucks you lost your fish but you're going to loose more if you keep dumping medication in the water. I also pray and hope that since you took the bio media out that you are dosing every day with prime.

After my sharks died I went and talked to a fish specialist at a fish place here in VA Beach... I brought in a water sample... he checked pH, GH, KH, Nitrite, Nitrate, 2 Ammonia tests & Phosphates. I also showed him 4 or 5 pics of the 2 sharks that died.

Basically my Catfish and Cichlid in this tank as well aren't affected by whats happening to my Balas. My smaller 7" Bala definitely showed signs that it was internal.

In the past 24-36 hours a 1/3 water change w/ RO water was done & I was told to medicate with Maracyn b/c the Balas are obviously showing signs of an infection with cloudy eye, the shedding syndrome & frayed fins. One Bala looked as if his mouth was stuck just hours before he died and my last one that died had a red line under his gills & around his one side. My catfish and cichlid are still eating when I put about 10 pellets of food in. In fact the cichlid practally ate them all up. My water quality was ok... basically the Prime & Stability dosages I was doing was helping lock up the bad ammonia. With the water change & the Maracyn so far, everything seems to be ok, but just taking it hour by hour...

Like I've said before... it's really difficult to figure what to do, when literally every person is telling me something different. This guy at the fish store I'm working with has been leading me in a positive direction so far so it's really been only one of my best options as doing something about it here since I seem to have made a lot of bad moves up till now...
