I've got 3 8 in bala sharks that are missing a couple scales. I've noticed this since last week and I thought maybe my new knife fish has been messing with them, but I don't think so.
Google search has me thinking a possible bacteria infection.

Fish still seem fine. They're in the tank with my rays and new knife fish.

Anyone ever come across this before?

Water perms are good. Just check.
I also just threw in some salt.
Balas didn't like that. Acting different.

The knife's about 13 inches. I thought so at first.
But I've seen them swim and eat together without a single sign of aggression.
Could my new knife bring in a parasite? Or something

Pics don't turn out.
But scales missing and I can see skin.
Skin a little pink but not bleeding.
I use moon lights at night and watch them. They don't fight or even come close to each other. Not to mention, balas are pretty fast, don't think they would allow knife to get close to strike.
I still think it's something else.

Sounds like a bacterial infection then. Do a large water change and pick up some Maracyn plus and treat as directed. I sent a pm to Aquanero as well for confirmation since he's very good when it comes to diseases

Without a good picture it is diffacult with any accuracy to give an opinion on what's going on. Once the lights go out you don't know what happens you can't sit up all night and watch them. Post your water perameters, ammonia nitrite, nitrate, Ph and hardness if available. Clean water is always the best frist step. Do you have a hospital tank or anyway to seperate the fish?

I'll try a pic again tonight. Balas are just too fast.
First thing I did was check water parms.
everything good.
Tanks a 560, so I definitely need to start another tank. It's got a 6 gal. per hr drip, so water change might not be needed.
Maybe I should start with replacing carbon block.
I added aluminum line to heat my drip off a pellet stove. Maybe carbon block not filtering out the aluminum.

Carbon doesn't get aluminum you need somthing like zeolite I think. Maybe someone like duanes would be better at this than me. As far as peramiters go I need numbers to recomend meds just saying good doesn't help me in that respect.
