i have a jag and fahaka in a a 6x2x2 tank. that is all i really wanted in there 2 big fish, well a couple cats but anyway. the problem is the jag goes out of its way to push the fahaka around. it hasn't hurt it, cant eat it but has to be stressfull. now to my ? what about a few bala sharks to distract him. or any other fast swimming plus sized fish ideas? if not the jag may have to go.

Target fish work wonders in fish tanks. Silver dollars and filament barbs work pretty good...I've never tried bala sharks but it's the same concept. Balas get pretty big. Filament barbs are awesomely fast swimmers and max at 6".

Not the Bala...These fish get big....I'd stick in a dozen Neon Tetras every two weeks....My 180 pygo(piranha) tank is treated the same way....I'd buy 3 dozen Neons every month....What really works good is the COnvict cichlid....Mind me though, do not get a pair of cons, for they will take over the whole tank, so stick with a single speciman....Cons make great dither(target) fish....Very hardy and fun...

i need something of decent size or it will be lunch. the jag is at least 8+" and the puffer 6". but i am on the right track?

Yes you are on the right track. Target fish will give your Jag something else to chase around when he's feeling feisty so all his aggression isn't targeted only on 1 fish. With your tank size, you could add a shcool of SD's. They're fast, hardy and can take some abuse.

IMO I wouldn't use balas there are much better options for target/dither fish. Balas get big, but that wouldn't be your problem IMO the problem would be that they need lots of swimming room and as a larger fish, they won't have very much room to swim in that tank, and also, they are destructive, they go into insane spurts of madness, darting about the tank like a crazy fish, knocking off intakes and breaking heaters, ect. So if your balas got spooked (and they will every time you walk by the tank just about) it would be bad for your tank, and it gets to be bad on the fish when they are larger.

i would go for tinfoil barbs or silver dollars instead

I would go with silver dollars, they have always worked for me. I had 4 bala sharks once only for the to die by freaking out and crashing into the side of the tank, not good target fish imo.

I vote for silver dollars as well. Tinfoil barbs get even bigger than bala sharks and bala sharks are known to be skiddish so I don't think they'd be good dithers.
