Balanced ecosystem and nitrate using plants

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
y is that??? DOC will get broken down in the bio. filter, or through decomp. plants will eat up all that. The trace elements and minerals can be supplied from a number of different things. i really don't think i would say that the tap water we drink is a missing key for the "mastery of biological balancing" needed to keep up the health of the fish in an aquarium, so that being the case i really think that u could have a system that requires no water changes or maybe very few water changes each year to keep the system healthy.

This is not the place for this discussion, but you are not correct regarding both the DOC's and trace elements. Please PM me if you require further explanation or better yet, do some reading about the topic.

Forgot about the rotalla... Anyways, it never hurts to do a little research. I am just showing what I have done with the little bit of information I have gained. To each his own. There are a million different opinions about how to do the same thing. this is working for me so I think I will stick with it

I feel like I have hijacked this thread so I apologize to the original poster

Pshtex, if you're interested in learning more about this type of system, check out aquaticplantcentral under the el natural section of the forum. Or if you can find it, Diana walstads book, ecology of the planted aquarium. I think that's the name. Haven't read it yet, but from what I hear it's pretty good
