Ball or Corn??? I can't decide...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
bith are good snakes, but alot of the time every snake is different. if you want a corn and you dont care for the morph, ask the pet store owners about the individual snakes, some snakes will be more dicile, some are finnicky eaters and others are not this my advice, but you say you want a handling snake, so id go for temperment over color if i wanted a hancling snake.

Good point.

I when I do eventually go to pick one out, I'll ask the employees when the snakes ate and if and when I could handle some of them.

They may know a thing or two about the snakes temperaments since they deal with them all the time.

I do have preference if I go with a corn, and that would be either an amel stripe, or a blizzard.

The availability of those may affect my decision when the time comes. Thank you for your help.

Thats an excellent price for a BP, mine was £45 but i got it for free.

they are much cheaper over in the states than here. There is also a difference between male and female prices (usually).

Hey, why not get both? You probably will eventually anyway! Lol who hasnt? :)

It all depends on how much effort youre willing to put in and what you expect from a pet.

Good luck!

:headbang2

yeah I'm definitely going to have both eventually, but I want to start slow since this is my first time jumping into herps.

maybe someday I could afford a leucistic BP :naughty: (platinum in MFK terms) :D

i would suggest a corn snake imo because i have had cornsnakes and they are so easily handled and they are always out and about trust me u will eventually side towards a cornsnake instead. But if u got a bp u would have to get rid of your 20 long quick because the bp will grow fast.

20g L isn't big enough? I've read a few sources (they seemed credible since they had a lot of info about BP husbandry) and they stated 20gL was alright for a single adult? Were they wrong?

  1. man in my hands on opinion, mine liked to roam around alot, mostly at night but still, where do they live in the wild i mean come on.go biger for the bp.it will be fine for a bit but think about this,if it could stretch from one side to the other and still be touching the glass and even more so front to back would you be happy.I know its not a dog but you know what i mean.start with a smaller snake if you already have the 20 L.you will have time to get a bigger one later.
  2. If you want to hold them much, the bp will eventualy just coil and chill, some find this borring, corn will stay clinged to you but the front of his body will be very exploring and curious, yes both can be cool and thats why i have a boa and a corn now, sometimes im in a dif mood.in my bp experience, warmth, regular feeding so when they fast its not so scary and lots of water oh and a hide box with a bit of humidity.all very important.the fasting and sheding issues are the cons.you may at times need to help them remove sheds around the eyes and such.
  3. corns almost blow all others out of the water with the ease of care.both are great snakes and im sure i will get another bp some day,i prefer the normal phase herps but an albino bp is just killer looking so who knows.were all diferent.

You have apoint Jason. I was a little surprised that a 5ft snake had a recommended min tank so small.

My reasoning was that I would be taking it out frequently and letting it explore my room (under close supervision of course) and that would be it's exercise and while in the tank, it would prefer to stay warm and digest it's food in it's hide.

I may go with a corn after all because of the activity, unless I happen upon a good deal on a 40g breeder.

But if that happened, I'd probably just end up with both :naughty:
