My signifigant other has a Ball Python..normal,male.He had hoped it was a female but..sadly is not.
Since he discovered this awhile ago(He's had the snake about 3 years now).
I've found someone who is willing to sell me two normal females, for 80 dollars plus shipping..
Since my signifigant other does not know I'm purchasing these as a gift, since I know he's interested in breeding I thought I'd get him an early christmas gift.

My question is, the gentlemen selling them said that they are 50% possible HET albino, but there is no guarantee they will prove out.
He went on to say that the sire is HET albino and dam was normal...

Does this mean there's a 50% chance the clutch will have the sire's albinos genes?

I 'm just curious , as it'd be interesting to see..and if what I just mumbled..means anything lol:)

Thanks a bunch..oo..I've attached several pictures of the girls.
Thanks.

Okay, the females you're looking to get have a 50% chance to be het for albino. Any babies produced by them from a mating with your normal male will be visually normal with a 25% chance of being het for albino; you will not produce any albinos unless your male is het for albino, too. In other words, you'd really only be able to sell the babies as normals unless the father proves to be carrying the albino gene as well.

I personally would also get an codom gene male such as a pastel, spider, or pinstripe if you're looking to breed ball pythons; 50% of the babies from a codom/normal pairing should be that morph, so you always will do pretty good on any given mating.

Yeah....I agree with Ryan. Mating a normal to a 50% possible het is a LONG term mating project which may never get you any visual albinos. You can pick up a female pastel for about the same price as you were going to pay for the two possible hets. They average $75-$100 plus shipping.

I'd get the normal females still and get a male pastel rather than just a female pastel in order to maximize the number of pastel babies (and the number of babies overall). Like I was told, the more females that you have, the better of you'll be if you're trying to start up a small breeding project. It takes way less time to get a male ready to breed than it does for a female, so that's why I suggested adding on a male pastel. You could probably sell the normal male that you currently have; it's not really worth breeding it since there are already a ton of normals produced as byproducts of het and morph matings.

Yeah, I was looking around at pastel females but for a 2011 baby it was 300 including shipping. I think i'll keep these two girls, and my signifigant other will be breeding his normal male with them eventually, as this is a new project for us. i normally just breed fish haha. When he got his male 3 years ago,I don't think he realized how much he over paid for him haha, mind you..he was also under the impression she was female, not sure how much he really knew back then but..regardless.
Eventually though I think i'll buy him another male, a pastel, something albino or pinstrip and eventually a few more females.

Thanks everyone:)

OO..ya the pastel I was looking at came from a reputable place, I wasn't worried about paying the price..I've seen them go higher. The sig other is new to the hobby of snake breeding, so, while these girls grow he has a lot of research to do, and meeting with other snake enthusiasts in the area:)Then maybe I'll consider purchasing something else.
