i suggested a more enclosed hide, but he hates anything plastic, so good luck convincing him..

I can appreciate that. I didn't like the way the black plastic hides looked in my "naturalistic" setup, so I used a hot glue gun and covered them in spanish moss. They look 10 times better than any hide you can buy in the store....plus they help hold some humidity in the tank when lightly misted. I'll try to post pics tonight when I get home from work.

I don't blame him for that ;)

I have found that a good piece of cork bark is key, ones that don't leave much openness and provides a good cover. It's also easy to spray down during sheds.

you should get a morph..but idk what that guys talking bout i see the hides but it is a little bit open get some vines a background and a top should a bit nicer just suggestions and btw you should go to youtube and become a fan of snakebytestv they are awesome youll like bryan, chewy, kel, george, etc there awesome you might know them right now though so..

If I were you I would go to walmart and get a thermometer/humidity digital combo made by acu-rite. It's set up to measure inside and has a probe for outside.
With that said, what you do is put the probe on one side and the thermometer on the other that way you get readings of both hot and cold.
Also it measures humidity, so at like 14 bucks you can't beat it.

And I agree with the other posters with identical and smaller hides, as that way a snake never has to choose security over temperture.

Other than that your coming along, and you have taken everyones advice rather well and implied it, so good job.

Oh and a last thing is, how is your humidity and temps? Glass tanks are harder to maintain for both so what I did was wrap 3/4 the screen with aluminum foil leaving a an open space for ceramic heater in the lamp and they were dead on after that.

I also had an undertank heater that I rigged to a dimmer switch though

I wish I would've known about this earlier..

Somebody was supposed to get me a thermometer/humidity for Christmas, but ended up getting me a desktop model without the probes :grinno:

So I got the exo terra thermo-hygrometer and I'm very happy with it so far,
the zilla model seems to have very bad reviews so I stayed away..

Here are some before and after pics of the plastic hides. I also took a full tank shot so you can see how I have an identical hide on both the warm side and the cool side. Sorry for the crappy pics...I took them with my phone.

finally upgraded tank size to a 20 long, added a heat pad on the right, and switched to Eco-earth coconut fiber substrate:nilly:

Much much better.
