its a secret
well i picked up my ball pythong last friday, some of you already know that. well they said it was fed the mondy before and on a weekly schedule. well i didnt want to push it and feed too soon in a stress invoronment, so i left it alone all weekend.

well it seemed rather hungy so i picked up a live mouse yesterday. and put it in this morning. it seemed verry interested in it, followed it areound the tank about 2 times, but seemed scared. well i was watching it to make sure nothing happend, and the girl friend had to leave. so i walked her to the door and said good by, as i walked back into my room, he had alread struck it, perfect shot behind the head, and had coiled it up, within about 2 mins he had started eating its first meal!!!!:headbang2:headbang2

im so excited that it ate, i was really worried it wouldnt!!.

BTW for the first feeding i left him in his enclosure, i will start moving him to his own feeding enclosre after he is set in well. thanks for all the help and advice!!

Feeding enclosures are totally a waste of time. What I do is flip over the hide box and put the mouse in there. And feeding live mice... I think you know the deal.

Both practices are just outdated, a waste of time, and feeding live mice can be dangerous.

i know i was a lil worried about feeding the live mouse, but he was showing no interest in in the frozen/thawed i had. so when i picked out the mouse, i picked a small, BROWN mouse. it seemed to take to it better. i would prefet if it liked frozen/thawed, but for his first feeding i think he did damn well.

You have been wiggling the frozen thawed havent you?

Pre killed?

Brained?

Scented?

My ex tied a gerbil to a rat...and straight after that it was packing down the rats...he has 11 and has only had to feed live once :)

yea i tried the whole wiggle thing. what is the brain thing? i have heard of scenting it but i dont have a gerbil, or any place to keep one..LOL maybe after the first mouse the next one will be easier...

you buy a frozen thawed gerbil...
the braining method means cutting the head open of the food (once dead of course...)and generally just getting some of the brain out onto the dead foods face so theres lots of smell there...they should usually take it :)

ok ill have to try that, btw in washington i have never seen a frozend gerbil... on mice... ill try it with a mouse next weekend. i was going to feed once a week.. sound right?

as babies, i feed mine every 5/6 days and gradually descrease with age, considering mine is taking rat weiners (the male)..i only really need to feed once a week, but I like to have the extra size there because they ar so prone to starving themselves (before anyone says...NO im not talking alot of extra size here)

i would go wiith rats rather than mice, that way when its big enough to take small adult rats, you won't have to feed like 6 small mice instead..

you should have gerbils
if not
get a live one..kill it, try scenting the rat, if it still wont take it then just tie them together tail-to-head (gerbil being first of course) :)

i dont think my snake is big enough for a rat yet..LOL he is only about 20" long.. i live in a small town, i have to drive like 35 miles to a pet store for food for my herps, the only problem is, its one of the only LPS, and they are one of the only ones to carry like rat pups, and they get bought FAST!!!
