BALL PYTHON- Urgent

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thank you guys.

it did not hiss, or act agressive although it was nervous, not particularly happy to be handled-...

guess i'll get it.

Racer, youve had yours a week now? When I get new snakes (or any herp) I dont handle them for at least 3 weeks. If I see noticeable improvement by then I start gently handling, but Ive had it take longer. It took 2 months for my rescued leo to stop dashing into his hide at the slightest provocation, and 2 weeks after that to stop the biting. Weird though, makes me wonder what the heck happened to him before I adopted him...

Yeah royals are nervous as a species unfortantely, and although will reduce with time, will never actually be eliminated :(

I lot of new ball pythons just go limp and listless because of plain stress... People interpret that as 'tame'. im not saying yours is, but its very unusual for a pet shop ball python to be truly 'tame' that fast. Would you accept a giant smelly monster as a non-threat after only a week of it lifting you out of your house and carrying you around?

well if its been handled alot because of being CB loco, it will be considered 'tame'.

What is the definition of tame anyway, at least, tolerant of handling. Miguel here knows alot about animals bar being a noob on snakes.

Lets not start the 'tame' debate :)

We are on about aggression here, as miguel himself stated it didn't seem happy to be held, we already know that. Lets stay on topic here :)

Jess, I wasnt talking to Miguel.

ok guys. I understand both your "young hearts and young bloods" points. I will get it. Of course that, in comom lingo, being captive bred and periodically handled, it is "tame", by tame meaning "adapted" to being force handled..but not liking it, not wellcoming it.

Guess I will pick it up, my fat sausage..

Consider it truely tolerant of handling when it moves around freely, not striking or hissing, and not curling into a ball when you take it out. If it's curling into a ball, it's scared.
