balzani coloring up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey Peter, great looking balzanii! They are developing quite well. Did you ever ask Ken if these were from Argentina? They look much different than the Rio Uruguay race.

Quick question - when multiple males are in the same tank (like in my case), will the subdominant males be suppressed? Or are they all going to have humps?
I think your tank is large enough for multiple pairs to form, in which case the breeding males will have a nuchal hump and the unpaired ones will not.

yes they are domestic fish, Most likely Argentina or Paraguay race, still very young, they should block up as they grow. Ken

I found mine were, in fact I didn't even realise one was a male until I put it in another tank! Although that was in a tank with a 3'x18" footprint.

So I guess I should keep no more than 2 males... poor subdominant/backup male...:D

Ed - your female is from Uruguay. Do you think it's going to work out if these are the Argentina race?

Sue is wanting a few isn't she? I'd be happy to trade still since I said I would, but if you can give them to Sue then go ahead. They are beautiful fish and I'd love to have some but it would sort of defeat the purpose if I could not combine them with mine. I can tell them apart but I am mainly interesting having a breeding colony, and that would not work out with two variants. I will get more from Felipe in November. Keep posting updates, you'll have a great timeline of their development!

Ed
