Have some coming in from Jeff Rapps. I was originally supposed to get 2 males 4 females. Apparently he sent me 3 and 3. They are for a 75g with a fair amount of driftwood. I read some stuff that said males are aggressive with each other and other stuff that says they will coexist with some flaring. Does anyone have input on this? Thanks. They are Rio Uruguay cb if that matters.

Hard to say, but i think you had a better plan. They are harlem breeders - females guard spawning sites and males roam. The dominant male is going to want to keep all three females. You can imagine what happens to the other two males. Yes they are generally peaceful, but they can be tough on conspecies.

Agree they are generally peaceful, and I have kept 2 males and 4 females together, mostly without incident(also Uruguayan. During spawning the most dominant male can can get aggressive, so as peathenster said, be ready just in case.

Thanks guys I may just pick the most attractive male and leave him and sell the other 2. The tank is one of the few I still have set up and don't really have room to move them if things get badm

So they came in today they look great. They were all bagged separately and about the same size. There was one male with a much larger hump than the rest he will be the one to stay. He will get 3 females to himself. Can I put a BN pleco in with them? Not sure how well they will handle the temp swings, I'm going to leave it unheated. I also was thinking about putting a school of BA tetras with them not sure if this is a good idea.

I ordered some balzanii from Jeff as well. I ended up getting a trio and then a group of Gymnogeophagus meridionalis sp. Norte. I'm keeping them with some BA tetras and Corydoras aeneus. I think I would pass on the BN personally. I don't think they can handle the temperature swings.

Can you guys post some pictures? G. balzanii from Argentina and Uruguay look very different. I'm curious what these look like since Rio Uruguay is right in between the two countries.

Op- I pulled a "trio" of very skinny young ones as juveniles- turned out to be 2 males one female - the dominant male is rough on the other but nothing crazy in a community

Pete- if your id inc location on balzini- want to tell me where mine came from? Lol

Thanks

I just got them today, everyone is still settling in. It seems like they will have a decent amount of yellow on them which puts them closer in line with the Uruguayan race I believe. What do you guys think?
