Bamboo Charcoal as Media =^_^=

I was wondering if it was possible to use an Industrial Bag of Bamboo Charcoal (If i can find a source lol) as the Chemical Filtration in a Filter. Don't Freak out now saying OMFG are you stupid!? Itz not that im being cheap, but in this Hobby you gotta find things to save money. Cuz if this works.. itz actually a good idea and buying in bulk will be more...
Economical? (I think i spelled that word wrong lol) Plus Bamboo grows at a very fast rate.. so i doubt we'll ever run out of bamboo lol. It being very plentiful and not low as a resource means it should not be expensive =D ... i think =S

Also Bamboo Charcoal is Currently being used and sold as filter media in Asia. An example of this would be a Amano Takashi's ADA Bamboo charcoal Product.

While browsing the ADA website i got curiouse to what kind of media they were selling for their filters... what are they using for their mech,Chem,and Bio ect. I came across the Chemical Filtration Media, and noticed that it said Bamboo Charcoal..

Lol Figures.. cuz it coming from Asia... An abundance of Bamboo is Everywhere! YAY!! =^___^=

Any ways ... Seeing how itz being used and sold in ADA product carrying stores... Then finding this in Bulk should be safe to use in Aquariums. If it is safe for humans to use in cooking, purifying drinking water, bathing Using to absorb odors, and it does all things like the Carbon in the Euro and USA products then it should be safe to use =^_^=

Now All i need.. is to find a source where to buy it!

Has any body every used it, ADA or Regular bulk?

The Bamboo charcoal itz self alone has itz own Unique Beauty.. even when it is just displayed for decoration. I would like to use the Bulk charcoal, crush it my self and use it in my Asian Theme tank. Just the thought of the Charcoal media being bamboo matching some more bamboo in the tank is nice food for thought. =^_^=

Try it. It's def cheaper than hardwood charcoal. It also looks clean.

I think your idea to use bamboo would most definitely work. I have one tank where I planted some bamboo stalks from a floral arrangement and it does great tanks clean and healthy

Those Bamboo live stalks you planted, are good, i was also planing on using live bamboo in the filter to suck up some nitrates lol.

As for Bamboo Charcoal.. Only problem is Finding a Source!!!
I was thinking Oriental Market might have them, but i never got a chance to drop by. Hopefully someone might know where i can Grab!

Seeing as how bamboo is already decently porous live, I'm sure charcoal made from it would work. But I doubt it could compare with something like Matrix. And not all charcoal here comes from hardwood, at least not the high end stuff.

If you can find it, use it. It definitely won't hurt, but it will probably take a bit more to filter your water than the high end stuff. And it may not last as long. But like I said, if it is cheap, use it!

Just remember, carbon isn't a neccessity and with more affordable, reusable resins coming on the market, carbon is being used less.
