Bamboo et al

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I picked up 5 stalks of bamboo yesterday. I planted 3 in one of my planted tanks and put 2 in small plastic container growing out the top of another tank. I'll see out they do. If they grow I think they'll look pretty cool.

Anyone have any experiance with bamboo growing fully submerged as opposed to only having the root system submerged?

Welll I found a supplier for my lotus flowers. Google it and a few will pop up. I was told the lotus should work great as long as I get one of the dwarf variaties of lotus plants. Im gonna stick it in my 3" net pot. I have a 4ft t5 flouro hanging above the tank to provide plenty of lighting. I will be ordering one in the next few weeks.

Completely submerged they will rot.

I was hoping they would grow submerged, I guess I'll pull them out. Thanks for the info.

That should be pretty cool. Post a pic when you get planted I want to see it.

how tall are the stalks you got?
I'm wondering how much of tall, tree-like stalks (2+ ft) could adapt to being in water without rotting, even with all the tops with leaves above water.
Alternately, if they were grown out in that way starting from a small size...but don't they grow very very slow?

The ones I got were about 6" stalks. I kept one in the water to see what happens the rest I put sticking out the top of various tanks.

About 25% or so.
