bamboo sharks for 480?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not a big fan of tangs with sharks or rays. As a general rule tangs tend to be disease magnets including the dreaded marine ich. So with tangs - a QT is a must have.

Personally - I think that sharks and rays do best in species tanks or elamobranch only tanks- at least for home aquaria.

ok. im sorry to have to go over this again with you krj. i know i had another one of these threads a few months back asking the same question but things changed pretty quick once i got into FW rays.

ive overlooked all of those species that you have recommended, and i have found a liking for the Gray Bamboo shark, they look like a mini version of the blacktip reef shark (at least in my eyes...different finnage than the other bamboo sharks), r they an active bottom shark? cuz i know of sharks that never quit swimming, is this one of them? i would not mind having just a tank of sharks and a ray in there as well. do the rays have such metabolism as the FW ones do?

thanks for the help, you and zoodiver. :)

Actually - Gray Bamboos are pretty much like other bamboo sharks - which is to say fairly inactive or rather usually only active at night or during feeding.

Personally I tend to think the Gray Bamboo to resemble small Nurse Sharks - except that they are not nearly as stocky in build. Which makes sense - sense Bamboos and Nurses are members of the Orectolobiforms (family of Carpet Sharks).

so should i stick to two or three coral catsharks or two of those and one gray bamboo?

Yes, you'll see more activity out of the catsharks. And because they are smaller, you can have a group of them. They are actually found in groups in the wild, and are pack hunters. They thrive in captive groups.

Yes.

What pair of sharks can I put in a tank the size 96x29x28 (inches). Sorry for posting in your thread.

Not really any for their entire lives. The 29" measurement really limits you.
