great looking tanks. I'm just trying to get several new ideas. I'm not sure which direction I want to go in. I have a new 225G and am not sure if I'm going to go the planted tank route, gar route (kept them before and really enjoyed them), South American route (Rays and Aros...also enjoyed keeping them). Any thoughts out there? I like to keep things as natural as possible.

real bamboo did not work well for me , my fish kept tearing it up, but dead bamboo shafts tied together make a cool decoration for any tank. the best think about them is moss grows amazing on them!!!!!!!!!!!

I use dry bamboo (uncoated) garden stakes and carpet cores screwed to eggcrate diffusers to form bamboo forests. My vertically barred species (like dats) are more comfortable with this cover and range through more areas of the tank. I connect them with plastic washers/screws to the eggcrate (no gravel tanks) but know of others who use galvanized hardware with no ill effects. In FW, the bamboo lasts about 2 years. In light brack: 3years+.
