ok i bought some bamboo today and want to also use some in a new set up.
i will silicone it too the bottom of my tank so it sticks up all over the tank and looks like like a mini under water bamboo forrest.
is bamboo ok to use, does it need treating and has anyone used it before and got pics.
it is not live its just the main peice.

Here are some of my old tanks that used bamboo, both live and kiln dried. i never had problems with either except for a acidic smell when i used the dead stuff. i didnt get to keep the set up that way very long as the fish quickly required more swimming space. ive heard of people sealing their dried bamboo before putting it in tanks i just boiled mine to hopefully kill anything that may have been on it. still though, no ill effects to report..good luck!

i was going to cut it down with my chop saw to differing levels and make the cuts on slight angles so it is not straight, i will silicone them straight onto the tank base and will then plant at each base.
it should look good.
thanks for the info.

cant wait to see it done. how big of a tank? and what do you plan on stocking it with? my thinbar loved hunting in the stuff, he would slowly weave in and out between stalks until his prey was just within reach.

the reef tank i was doing got ditched for a grow out monster tank so it will have a thin bar or 2 or 3 at 4'' and a ngt at around 5'' plus a few small polypterus and some clown loaches or whatever esle i fancy.
the tank is a 32Lx32Dx24H and is 106usgal check the link below

mm curious! im looking for some tall decor for my new rena..
without siliconing anything to the tank how would you go about affixing live or dead bamboo into a tank so it doesnt float off?
wasnt going for a particularly planted tank myself as i have an oscar.. but actual living plants would be nice.
