The plant in the picture is a type of Dracena (sold as 'Lucky Bamboo'), not true bamboo. It is not a true aquatic and probably won't live long term underwater.
I am soaking some giant Bamboo (Bambusa oldhamii) sections to use in a tank. They were very bouyant at first but have finally sank after a few weeks in water.
